In 1991 Dr. Jake Sinclair, a San Francisco Pediatrician and his wife Lee, a writer and activist came to Kenya and Uganda because Time Magazine announced there were 6 million AIDS orphans!

Now there are 16 million, and no one even mentions it.
In the first stage they tried to replicate their American "Youth Industry" non-profit by assisting street children in Nairobi and Kampala.
They started by pairing street orphans with relatives still living in Nairobi and outlying areas.
But they found starting feeding programs and building schools ulitmately perpetuated the most tenacious obstacle to health and well being: Dependency.
